Embark on a journey up the Nile, to the very heart of Upper Egypt. This workshop invites dancers of all levels to take their first step into the world of Saidi. The session begins with an introduction to the rich culture and traditions that breathe life into this unique dance form.
Throughout the class, participants will explore foundational rhythms and master the iconic work with the assaya (cane). The movements are grounded and playfully dynamic, creating a style that is both powerful and full of joy. You will learn combinations with and without the cane, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the style. We will also touch upon the related Ghawazee dance, providing a broader context of Upper Egyptian folkloric styles. By the end, dancers will have a firm grasp of the historical context and a repertoire of movements to continue their exploration.
The workshop is suitable for dancers of All Levels.
The workshop will be held in English.
